Thanks Ralph. But I think the problem ensues earlier than the point/ points statements. I added an alert popup box to show me the request.readyState. It is "1". Yet the code I borrowed (from somewhere, can't remember where I go it) tests request.readyState for "4". So the script does not even drop into the point/points statements yet.
