A while back I started on a map centric project during our 5.5+ year
sailing trip (http://ff.im/4gfo2). It was my introduction to Google,
it's API's and group help forums.

After a year I can honestly say I was spoiled rotten here. With
amazing support, tutorials by Mike Williams (and others), the issue
tracker and changelog painstakingly updated by Pamela.. this group is
an example of how user supported help groups could/should work.

Unfortunately this is not the case in most of the other product and
developer forums throughout Google. Each product or API I added to my
suite became another Google critical path element, further increasing
my frustration with the Google "Wall of Silence". It is already hard
enough to battle the browser differences and proper product
documentation/support as a individual developer, resting your
reputation and efforts on a set of products/apis without support,
feedback or timing is almost impossible (and almost certainly insane).

Instead of dwelling on the negative, I want to focus my positive
energy on the group that showed me what could be accomplished through
powerful APIs and proper (group) support.

Thanks for that

Chris
