The only code differences that I'm aware of are:

1. You can use a single premier key on a site that has more than one 
domain name. With the free API you have to write your own code to switch 
to the key that matches the window.location.host domain name that was 
used.

2. With a Premier key it's possible to use https pages that don't show a 
warning. With the free key you always get a warning that the secure page 
contains some insecure content.

3. There's no fixed limit to Geocoding and GDirections requests. The 
requests are just counted against the number of transactions that you're 
paying for.

Outside the code, you get to negotiate your own Terms. This can include 
using the service in ways that are not permitted with the free API, and 
having a Service Level Agreement from Google.

And you can get technical support from real a Google guy instead of 
having to rely on this group for help.
