This is quite a bit later, so I'm sorry to resurrect, but it looks
like Local Search isn't really what I want.  That adds a search
control box to the map, but I want the searching to be done behind the
scenes, because the locations aren't the data that will eventually be
displayed.  What I want is something that will (for example) look for
the closest bus station to X and the closest bus station to Y, and
give directions to and from those stations.  It will also do some
other things to that data.
