I guess I was unclear.  Returning Raleigh, NC from  the geocoder is
fine.  But I would like to be able to return nothing from my search
because the rest of it should be a text search. Search for that on
maps.google.com and you get no results. You do get "Your search for -
afksljasdflk- near -raleigh- did not match any locations." Notice they
parsed the geocoded part from the text part.

This would be possible if google simply returned the part it geocoded
from the part it threw away.  I could easily do a text search on my
end.

Seriously though.  I don't see anything wrong with discussing these
issues with the geocoding service and getting them on record. If some
one else has a solution, or a similar problem, this can be a point of
reference. If a google employee happens to peek in here, then great.
