One thing about the US, there's just a lot of free data from the government. Just start searching the various offerings and you should be able to find a database that contains that information. Two come to mind right off - Census Tiger and Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). Both offer royalty free spatial data of a fairly high quality. It won't be easy to pick your way through the data but it will be there somewhere. I'd try BTS first.
