I think it falls into the "too difficult" pile. While it would be possible to maintain an array of points and show those lines which are attached to points visible in the viewport, it becomes more difficult to show *portions* of lines which are visible. And for portions of lines which cross the viewport between vertices both of which are outside it, it's very difficult.
