The whole thing is an event problem. Therefore it's not directly
related to the API. It seems that when using the pseudo-protocoll
javascript no event propagation occurs.
When the pseudo-protocoll javascript is not used - like in buttons -
the default event propagation of the browsers must be avoided.

So yes, it is possible to bring the focus back to the map after
displaying or removing an overlay - without any click or entering any
command in the address bar.
