Dear all,

I built a page with a world map in the corner, that is, a google map
at zoom level one. <http://christinedakin.com/cdcv.html> I can't say I
even noticed the copyright notice because it was unobtrusive. I think
it said "map data © 2010 Google" or something like that, it was
certainly not a problem. But when I returned to the page yesterday I
found that simple notice had turned into a great long string that
spilled out of the map div and defaced my page to the limit of the
browser window. A quick search here suggested a variety of fixes and I
settled on this css hack:

#map span {
        display: block;
        white-space: normal;
        bottom: -36px;
        color: #ccc;
        font-size: 6pt;
        line-height: 6pt;
        left: 0px;
        position: relative;
        text-align: center;
        width: 100%;
}

To make it as unobtrusive as possible without effacing it altogether.
This isn't really satisfactory, and I'm left wondering: what changed?
Why is it thought necessary to display this long string of
organizations in the copyright notice on the map? Could not this list
be moved to the 'terms of use' text. Can anyone provide some
illumination?
