Of course it is possible. Which part did you want help with? Data collection? That might involve a bicycle and a notebook for example. If you were planning on scraping Google's database and making your own copy, you would probably be breaking the terms of use. OpenStreetMap may be more useful to you. Depending which town, your data may be useful to OSM as well. There are lots of tutorials out there about creating and maintaining MySQL databases.
