ok, so I guess I took the easy way out and just created markers near enough to those lines that clicking on the sidebar makes it look like the infowindow is attached to the line... a quick (ha!) and dirty solution, but it seems to work ok, as long as you get the markers in the xml in the same order as the lines appear...
