I'm sure rounding is why the total distance doesn't match the sum of the individual components. If you write your own display routine, you'll see that the directionsService returns the result in meters, so you can do the rounding on your own.
And I've found that the actual distances are VERY accurate (when compared to a calibrated bicycle cyclometer, for what it's worth). One thing you should keep in mind about distances from one address to another: it's not always obvious where the "front door" is. I assume that 100 Australian Avenue is the mailing address of the airport. Since the geocoder has to interpolate that address from "endpoints," you can see that your destination ends up by the side of the highway, with a big fence between you and the runways.
