http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=earth+radius+site%3Acode.google.com mentions 6371km several times. However since the radius varies between 6353km and 6384km, any value is an approximation. Wikipedia says "Several different ways of modeling the Earth as a sphere each yield a convenient mean radius of 6,371 km (≈3,959 mi)." 6371km is around 3959 miles. 3961 miles is just under 6375km.
