I just checked that IE8 running IE7 compatibility mode also gets the error. To confirm the error I'll try to make a minimal test case and see if there's any workarounds. Regarding StreetView performance I think the biggest step forward will be WebGL and 3D Transforms, which I think will be available in FF 3.7, but by then you'd also see Google Earth in the V3 API.
