Hi all,

I'm currently working on a concept for a webiste, which allows users
to select a place of interest from a Google map on my website.

I've done some work with Google maps in the past, and have been
searching all morning on solutions for an AJAX style search box
effectively copying the functionality of the main Google Maps.

Basically, I don't really want the users to be adding their own
location for a place of interest - when I know it already exists when
you do a search on Google Maps. For example, a user wants to write
some information about the Statue of Liberty - they enter the
information, then search for it in the embedded google maps. As this
place of interest is already listed with Google Places, I'd want to
use that information rather than making the user add the location in
themselves.

Is there any way at all to access their AJAX search functionality to
use it on my website?

Alternatively, other than building my own db to store all possible
locations (I'm worried how many locations I'd have to store - it could
be endless!); are there any other options for this kind of thing?

Many thanks
