the static map api doesn't seem to do transparent layers like the overlap maps... but i am looking for a way to get a transparent map layer in JPG or PNG and not through the flash program. i know i could do it by querying the static map api on the back end and changing all the white pixels to transparent before serving it to the client, say, but this is a pretty heinous extra step. any other ideas? thank you.
