Documentation says about 'resize' event of map: "Developers should trigger this event on the map when the div changes size: google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize')"
I would like to be precise with the terminology. An html element is hidden with {visibility: hidden} style rule. In your case it is set {display:none}.
