When you click on the 'Link' icon at the top of the maps page and then click on 'Customize and preview embedded map' it generates a whole long <iframe> tag which you need to copy and paste into your web page source in its entirety. You have merely coded a simple <a href=...> link which will provide a link but not embed the map onto your web page.
