SOLVED! The solution was found here: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/articles/dotnet_client_lib.html In the original version of the app, I had used what must have been more-or-less uncompiled DLLs that were included with the SDK. The instructions on that link above, which I read this morning, said to open the SDK solution and do a build, then use the DLLs that were in an SDK subfolder called ../Redist. Those DLLs worked just fine. The app and page runs without errors.
