I agree with Vic that recalculating 'on the fly' is a necessary aspect of
the system - it's the main thing that sets Google's Spreadsheet apart from
other spreadsheets.  Happily, the batch update mechanism exists.
 Hopefully, the new version of the API (which we have been told will not be
based on the GData protocol) will maintain/enhance the ability to batch
requests.
