That seems like a complex way to solve the problem. Its fine for me to do 
it as a developer, but I can't ask my customers to do it. Writing edit 
triggers is complex enough coding for most 'regular' spreadsheet users.

The problem is that simple 'business logic' is sitting in these triggers. 
If apps that make changes to the data via the API bypass the business 
logic, it breaks consistency.
