I'll just bump this to clarify that I obviously meant "Is this possible in 
the *Google Sheets API*..."
Also, for posteriority, I've gotten in touch with Google Workspace 
Developer Support. According to their support representative, it's indeed 
not possible to increase the dimensions of a worksheet over the API without 
new cells inheriting all formatting and data validation of their existing, 
neighboring cells.
