Are you using externally-hosted transports to use MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, QQ,
GG, etc with your gmail.com XMPP account? Or were you planning to? I
was too, until I recently tried to change to another transport server,
only to find Google has BANNED the addition of new transports to your
Google Talk account!

Don't delete the transports you have, and cross your fingers that your
transport provider doesn't shut down or change it's name, as you can't
re-add it!

This regression in the gmail.com XMPP server's support of the XMPP
standard is implemented silently. You can register for a transport,
but if you then try to add it to your contact list so that it can
detect your presence and sign on, your roster addition does not
actually take effect, even though the server reports that it is
"successful". It is possible that this is an accidental regression.
Nevertheless, users all over the internet are only just now finding
out about it when they try to change their transport configuration.
They didn't all find out about it at once. It's an
insidious change. The 10,000 complaints about it on the Internet and
on Google's help servers were not all posted the day it happened
because it didn't break what people already had; it only broke changes
and additions to transport configurations.

Please, for the love of god and all that is holy, please fix this,
Google!
It's just a simple little change to fix something that was working for
three years!
Please!

If you're affected by this bug, let Google know! Follow up to every
mention on Google's chat and help groups, and tell your friends to do
so as well. Talk about it on your blogs. If you know a Google
employee, tell them to report the bug using the internal bug report
system. Do everything you can to save the XMPP standard from ruin at
Google's hands!
