I agree. This new version is terrible. I am a native English speaker
learning German, and sometimes when I am reading in German, I don't
understand a sentence even if I know what all/most of the words mean
so I've always just put it into Google to get the jist of what the
sentence means. But now it is so difficult to type in the sentences
with the stupid translator immediately translating everything. Not
only is it extremely annoying that the page keeps "refreshing" (I am
on a netbook so there are lots of pauses while I type in the translate
box while the page 'refreshes' as it translates). During the time the
page refreshes (about every second) if I am typing, half the word is
gone because it was trying to translate what I had just typed.
I don't mind the text being at the bottom now instead of the right,
but I'd say I'd prefer it be at the right so if the string of text I'm
translating is long I don't have to scroll down a lot. I have also
used the translator as a method of looking up single words and would
just sort of create a list as I went until the list got so long that
the translator highlighted all the text, and then I'd just delete it
when I typed the next word. But now I cannot do that unless I want to
scroll all the time.
I do, however, like the "contribute a better translation" area (though
why would I be using Google translate if I could translate it
better?), and I like the function of being able to flip-flop the
languages you are working with.
But the damn immediate translate is really obnoxious. Perhaps you
could have a function that turns it on and off?
