There are many parallel translations of the Bible. For fun, I used
http://www.mechon-mamre.org/i/t/t2608.htm (Psalm 8) in Hebrew and used
Google Translate. To say that the results were ridiculous greatly
understates the problem. (Try it). When being asked to translate
Biblical passages (a common enough request), Google Translate should
recognize the nature of the request and "look-up" a parallel
translation rather than to attempt its own.
Were one to evaluate Google Translate based on its Biblical
translation ability, one would have to conclude that machine
translation had advanced not at all from the earliest efforts in the
1960s.
