Hi, Not sure if this has been reported, but there is a bug in the translations returned by Google Translate(GT) that inserts extra spaces into the translation that were not in the original.
I am accessing the API programmatically for use in a computer assisted translation program (OmegaT+ http://omegatplus.sourceforge.net) and this is causing a lot of extra work to edit for anyone doing serious translation work. The spaces are inserted due to, I believe, preprocessing of the original text into words and other non-word text. The resultant text is translated by GT and then left with all extra spaces inserted. These spaces seem to occur between letter/digit and non-letter/digt characters and between certain multiple non-letter/digit characters (e.g., // always becomes / /). I have attempted to correct the problem on the translation side by use of regular expression processing, which can catch a cross-section of these spaces and remove them, but from my perspective the problem is ill-defined due to not knowing the rules applied to the original to create theses spaces and being unable to test every language to determine if the results are consistent. It seems to me that the best way to fix this is at the source where the spaces are inserted and not afterwards. That is, the extra spaces added should be tracked by the process creating them and removed before the translation is given. I hope that this can be rectified at some point on the Google side. Thanks.
