Boop, Google Translate is based on what's known as "Statistical
Machine Translation". This method sometimes produces wrong results,
which are sometimes humorous. For example, Ljubljana, the capital of
Slovenia, was for some time translated from Slovene as "rape".
"Pilipinas" was translated from Tagalog to English as "United States",
rather than "Philippines". This is not a prank, it is an error, and
the best way to fix it is by clicking "alternate translations" and
typing in your correction.
