So, is there a way to switch them off, then?

I've been able to fudge the output a bit by using the 'formatted
value' to show something other than the datapoint values. But, it
ain't pretty.
e.g.
data.addRow([{v:-3.092, f:'Protein'},{v:0.037, f:'1'}]);
