It turns out you can indirectly constrain the width of columns in a ColumnChart when using a continuous value axis, which will work for timeofday. Just surround your value with a pair of rows that have null values for the series, as shown in this demo: http://jsfiddle.net/dlaliberte/tqzcceL2/
