I can't say that this will fix the problem, but you  might try running
through the Getting Started tutorial on
http://code.google.com/p/gwt-google-apis for the Google Maps API for GWT.
 It loads everything in your tool chain but the OpenLayers API.  I would be
curious to see if you had the same problem.
