Alternatively, you may want to double-check that its fetching the data that's taking a long time (and not rendering it).
Look into using IncrementalCommands to increase the apparent responsiveness of your UI. Also, look into using DeferredCommands when you need to show a spinner but it's not going to be completed at the end of an async method.
