I'd like my application's sign-up process to give each new account its own sub-domain, through which users would subsequently access the application proper.
The 37Signals (http://37signals.com) applications, for example, work that way. If I sign up for Basecamp, a new david.basecamphq.com sub- domain is created for me, and can login to the application by entering https://david.basecamphq.com in my browser's address bar.
