Well, I got this fixed but I don't really know what the problem was. To trouble shoot the problem, I created a new gwt project using the eclipse plugin. when I tried to open the entry point class with gwt designer, I got the very same problem. So, it wasn't a problem with my project but with my eclipse environment. I uninstalled the gwt plugin from eclipse and reinstalled it. After this, the problem went away. So, forgetting about it for now.
