That shouldn't happen, unless you use "mvn eclipse:eclipse" or similar (or 
the archetype from gwt-maven-plugin).
Delete the .eclipse, .classpath and possibly .settings and .factorypath 
files and then do the "Import Existing Maven Project" again.

Or you could try simply removing "GWT SDK" from the Build Path (right click 
on the project → Build Path → Configure Build Path…), but I'd rather go 
with a “wipe out Eclipse-related files and re-import” approach.
