I didn't see any previous mention of these ideas, but if they've already been discussed and dismissed, my apologies.
First, a global search would be nice. I can understand how that may be undesirable from a performance perspective, but I would think that users would be willing to put up with a long wait if they're warned in advance. Perhaps instead of displaying all message hits, a global search could search all lists for keywords and score the lists, so that instead of seeing the message hits, it would just display the scores of lists that seem to be pertinent to that topic. Regarding the UI itself, I passionately hate browsing archives one message at a time. It would be great if one could view all messages, perhaps within a thread, or in a time range. A size limit would be perfectly acceptable, so long as there is a "read more" option at the end to build another page of messages. Slashdot's "nested comments" interface seems like a decent model, but a flat mode would be fine as well. Thanks for putting together such a great service! -John Daily [EMAIL PROTECTED]
