I've doing some internationalization experiments with Mail-Archive. There is a test French localization online -- I only tackled the message/index pages, not the search engine. I'm looking for feedback and comments, see http://www.mail-archive.com/experiment.
Assuming all goes well, I will introduce i18n/l10n to the service in a few days. Because there is no reasonable way to autodetect the official language of a mailing list, localizing a list will require a simple manual process on my end. So far only French is supported, but once I get one language, many others will come easily. I will eventually solicit translators via a message in the FAQ. Jeff PS. For those linguists out there, here is the current localization for French. Let me know if there are any mistakes! (A little voice is telling me I should use HTML escapes for the accented characters, but I haven't done that yet. Another voice is telling me to read up on HTML character set issues.) # French localization s/\/\/EN/\/\/FR/g s/Search/Recherche/g s/Date Index/Index de dates/g s/Thread Index/Index thmatique/g s/Monthly index/Index mensuel/g s/Earlier messages/Messages prcdents/g s/Later messages/Messages suivants/g s/Chronological/Chronologie/g s/Mail converted by/Converties par/g s/Find/Rechercher/g s/Thread/Suivi de Conversation/g s/From/From/g s/Subject/Objet/g s/Date/Date/g s/Reply via email to/Rponse lectronique /g s/Follow-Ups/Suivi de conversation/g s/References/Rfrences/g _______________________________________________ Gossip mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://jab.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gossip
