Day before yesterday, I told Exim (the mail transfer agent I use for all incoming mail) to add warning header to mail flagged by the RBL so I could see the effects.
Since then, I've received three personal spams, none of which were flagged. Grepping through a couple thousand pieces of mail-archive mail, exactly one message was flagged. The message was legit, and the warning was against an open relay way up the foodchain -- on the originator's computer. In my ideal world, RBL would be flagging blacklisted listservers. So it's probably too small a statistical universe to make a conclusion, but so far, RBL is a complete flop.
