I would like to propose a new module for the Firefox for Metro project.
This is a new browser UI, designed for Windows 8 touch-screen
computers. The code for the browser was developed on the "elm" project
branch and recently landed on mozilla-central.
The code for the new app is in the /browser/metro directory, and the app
will be bundled with "classic" Firefox for Windows. However, it does
not share code under /browser with desktop Firefox (aside from a few
localization files) and it has a separate team of dedicated staff and
separate project management.
So both organizationally and technically I think it makes sense to treat
the Metro browser as its own module, just like the Fennec browser it is
based on. Here's my proposed module ownership. I think this reflects
and codifies our current development practices, and should not change
anything we are currently doing:
Name: Firefox for Metro
Description: Web browser for the Windows touch-screen environment
Module owners: Jim Mathies, Matt Brubeck
Peers: Allison Naaktgeboren, Brian Bondy, Frank Yan, Mark Finkle, Sam
Foster, Tim Abraldes
Source Dirs: /browser/metro
Bugzilla Component(s): Firefox for Metro
URL: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Metro
Discussion Group: https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/metro
(I do hope that the list of contributors and peers will grow as Firefox
for Metro gets closer to release and gains users and testers. It would
be especially great if some of the peers from the Firefox module choose
to contribute and become Metro peers as well.)
