Hi Russ. The MAR records you have listed look like they encompass ordered,
dispensed and administered medications. The specifications for the CRN/CESR
Infusions Administered table limits to only actual medications administered. As
a result we only see values such as "NEWBAG', "GIVEN", "COMPLETED", "INFUSED",
etc. The identifier ORD_CNTCT_TYPE_C = 7 in the ORDER_DISP_INFO table in Epic
is the limiting flag we use.

Some sites have constructed an "infusions dispensed" table, but this was done
for study-specific aims.

Does this help?

Hi David,

We're moving through prototyping med_admin for PCORnet to incorporate infusions
and other administrations. The sites are loading data but noting variability
in terms of how healthsystems document "given", "infused", "new bag",
"completed", etc.

https://informatics.gpcnetwork.org/trac/Project/ticket/651

For example from the ticket above, our MAR records in Kansas have
  'MedObs|MAR:New Bag'
   'MedObs|MAR:Downtime Given - New Bag'
   'MedObs|MAR:Given - Without Order'
   'MedObs|MAR:Downtime Given'
   'MedObs|MAR:Given - Without Order'
   'MedObs|MAR:Given by another Provider'
   'MedObs|MAR:Given by Patient/Family'
   'MedObs|MAR:Given'
   'MedObs|MAR:Clinic Administered - Patient Supplied'
   'MedObs|MAR:Bolus'
   'MedObs|MAR:Per Protocol'
   'MedObs|MAR:Infusion Home with Patient'
   'MedObs|MAR:ED-Infusing Upon Admit'
   'MedObs|MAR:Push'
   'MedObs|MAR:Restarted'
   'MedObs|MAR:PCA Check/Change'
   'MedObs|MAR:NPO'
   'MedObs|MAR:See OR/Proc Flowsheet'
   'MedObs|MAR:Patch Applied'
   'MedObs|MAR:Bolus from Syringe'
   'MedObs|MAR:Bolus.'

Which may suggested the drug was given while other elements such as "Not Given"
are clearly not given.

Do you (KP and CRN) have any documentation of best practices for which events
should be used to denote infusions or administrations as given/started? We're
looking to see if we can best align PCORnet work and your prior work.

Ccing others who may be looking at this also from pediatric and other
perspectives.

Sincerely,
