"""Telstra managed to stave off the inevitable for longer than most of its peers.""" translated into English it means Telstra was able to shaft it's customers for longer due to their monopoly abuse. I don't think the words "Telstra" and "performance" should be used in the same sentence unless clarified by adjectives like "abysmal". Broadband revenue increased because legislators fail to pull their fingers out their rectum and leave Telstra free to rape and pillage the competition which still largely is at Telstra's mercy for infrastructure use. Retail sales improved largely due to misleading advertising, leading to a deluge of complaints with the ombudsman and are unlikely to be sustainable Mobile revenue increased because of Telstra's move to break the standard GSM and introduce a second incompatible system (CDMA) just to prevent competition in growth areas. So both areas where they managed to increase revenue are actually rather bad news for consumers, and in an "information age" very bad news for a country as a whole.
