I'm glad we have a taker for this bug :) It surely is a nice and interesting
task. Maybe we can meet on IRC or via Jabber some time this weekend and talk
about possible implementations/designs?
We probably should make the SQLite-based database a kind of "core information"
object, i.e. it manages the database transparently, and other parts of gPodder
can ask "questions" and provide "answers" to this knowledge base, like we
already do with the helper functions in gPodderLib, i.e.
* set_downloaded(url), unset_downloaded(url), is_downloaded(url)
We could even make this more generic, and simply store key-value pairs for each
URL, and the URL is either the channel's feed URL or the episode's download
URL, i.e.
* set_property(url, key, value), get_property(url, key)
(key, value) for an episode could then be ('downloaded', 'True')
As Tim Michelsen noted in comment #3, it would be very cool to have support for
synchronizing these settings with other computers. Supporting up- and
downloading of settings to a remote ssh/webdav location with support for
merging (in case gPodder is installed on several computers and the user wants
to have the history in sync) would be very helpful and should probably already
be considered in our design, even if we are not able to add this functionality
in the first version.
I'm assigning this project to you, then :) Just get in touch when we can
discuss the design and meet/talk on IRC/Jabber or on the gpodder-devel mailing
list.
