Something similar has been discussed before, but does the solution below not
give you want you want in a different way? Or is it because you have 40
channels it is difficult to get an overview?

Hi the functionality you require is in 0.11.3 but it has been disabled by
default (I am not sure on the reason). To enable the functionality you need to
got to the advanced preferences dialog and set podcast_sidebar_save_space =
false.
