You can "apt-get source gpodder" in Diablo's Scratchbox with Maemo Extras enabled, if you want to have a starting point for the Debian packaging creation. Just be sure to name the version so that the 0.13.0 release will upgrade your package (i.e. have 0.12.3+git20080926-nikosapi or something like this instead of 0.13.0-development or something, which might look newer than 0.13.0 to dpkg).
