I concur that a global setting should override netdev-specific settings here. I think that clearing just netX/filename and netX/root-path is maybe too specific; would it be cleaner to clear netX.dhcp (and proxydhcp etc) at the end of netboot()? That would have the effect of undoing any DHCP-acquired settings at what seems to be the most appropriate point.
