w00t gave more information on the question: I think this is a statsd problem. I decided to send data directly to carbon: "echo "ssh.invalid_users 1 `date +%s`" | nc -w 1 localhost 2003" and it draws lines that don't disappear. But it's not the type of graphic I'm looking for.
