it is still useful for batch scripting purposes, which is one of our great
strengths.


fwiw, currently the OSGeo4W installer gives 3 startup options:
 TclTk, Text, and wxPython

the stand-alone installer gives: GRASS-wx (no term), GRASS-wx with a msys
terminal, GRASS DOS box only, and GRASS tcltk (no term)
