Ma When in doubt, fallback to how menu items should look like in general which is be a command, for example: Open, Save as, Work offline, Print, Close window, Copy, Clear The strange sound of "Common formats import" may be from the plural which is necessary there (and perhaps also because it doesn't make much sense), but the plural sounds OK in "Import common formats" (and it makes sense in general). "Import of common formats" sounds OK too and perhaps it is even grammatically more correct but "Import common formats" is shorter and it is a command/order which is fits with the principles for menu.
