Hi just stumbled upon your question while trying to find a way to install it on 10.04 as well. Jumped through all the hoops to get onto this mailing list to let you know what worked for me...
1. Download mkhexgrid-0.1.1-1.i386.rpm 2. $ sudo alien mkhexgrid-0.1.1-1.i386.rpm 3.
