Also, doing this at the command line will make all invisible files visible all 
the time :

>  defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool YES
>  killall Finder

(the second line just refreshes the Finder and makes the first command active)

To make the 'hidden' files invisible again do the same thing but put NO at the 
end of the first line.
