Do you need to use this library? There is also newer library PyGRASS ( http://grass.osgeo.org/grass70/manuals/libpython/pygrass_raster.html), it has more capabilities, so you might want to use that anyway. Perhaps if you would share what is your usecase, people may have some advice.
